AFKIM 3
March 20, 2007 on 8:08 pm | In AFKIM, PSP |For my entry in the NEO Spring Compo 2007 I have given AFKIM the attention it deserved to make it a much more usable application.
[Edit] Voting is over a while ago, I won
AFKIM is an (almost) universal messenger client for PSP (Supports: AIM, ICQ, MSN, GTalk, Yahoo!)
Download links
Experimental OE version, tested in game310 folder with OE 3.10′, seems to not work in 3.03
1.5 Version, tested in game150 folder on OE 3.10′
The OE Version works with WPA connections, you must use automatic network configuration however (DHCP)
EDIT: The OE version seems to work for most people on 3.03 OE-C
I’ve also made some guides to hopefully help new people get started with AFKIM.
Even if you’ve used it before, it would be worth giving the How To Use guide a quick read over.
Getting Started Guide
Quick How To Use AFKIM Guide
[Edit] Danzeff documentation available here
The changelog for AFKIM3 is as follows:
–3
Much better, more usable program.
Works in OE kernel, DHCP ONLY CURRENTLY, not sure why static IP address doesn’t work.
Faster display rendering (Keyboard lags less)
Better wifi handling - User can rechoose which to connect to if connecting fails.
Better menu system, lots more menu items.
- Away / Back
- Remove Account
- Reconnect to Wifi (No more quitting AFKIM to reconnect! yay)
- Get Buddy Details
- Rename Buddy
- Block/Unblock Buddy
- Delete Buddy
Fixes related to pressing buttons, menus now continue scrolling if you hold up or down.
Better connection handling.
Many many code cleanups
Fix memory leaks (introduce a new known one)
–2 and a bit
Quit option.
Ability to use start as well as X to go buddy select -> chat.
FIX: Editting text box with space messes up display.
FIX: Account details don’t save sometimes.
When the Neoflash vote starts, I’ll be depending on you to vote for me, so don’t go too far away ![]()
And when the competition finishes I will release a splash free version.
And if you are feeling generous, feel free to paypal me to show your thanks ![]()

Hi Man you’ve done grat work with AFKIM but i have one sugestin, if you can in next version include standard JABBER, cause in my country most people use something colled “gadu gadu” and jabbe the real one is only hope for us to run “gadu gadu” on PSP with you powerfull homebrew…
realy !!
I think allmoust every kid in Poland will be greatfull about that, and then you can count for donation
thanks and take care …
sorry for my english
Comment by LOCOSP — March 21, 2007 #
Wow, this is a very exciting release.
Thank You Very Much!
I only have two wishes now for this program.
1. That when you switch between chatting with different people. that each person would have an independent message typing box. meaning, if I typed a part message (without sending it) than switched to another person on my contacts list; that the box for typing you message in would not retain your previous, partial message in it; but rather be its own ‘typing box’ per contact.
2. That while you are typing a message, msn or whatever service you use would display “mr. jones is currently typing a message” (or whatever your username is)
Comment by David Wood — March 21, 2007 #
@LOCOSP - It will come in a future version.
However you can add jabber accounts now using your PC:
Using an IRC client (mIRC will work), connect to the server im.bitlbee.org with your nickname being the username you entered on your psp.
once logged in, say “identify YOURPASSWORD” in the &bitlbee channel.
now say “account add jabber USERNAME PASSWORD SERVER” to add your jabber account.
This acccount will appear in AFKIM next time you start it up.
@David Wood
1 - Good idea, Will look at adding it.
2 - This depends on bitlbee support, there are currently patches around to add this but it isn’t on the main bitlbee server yet AFAIK.
Once it is I will definately add support
Comment by Danzel — March 21, 2007 #
hi! thx a lot 4 this beautiful app. What about adding foreign languages in newest versions? e.x. Russian?
it will be great)
as i know you need to add Win 1251 0_o
from Russia with love. MURMUR
Comment by timur-mur-mur — March 22, 2007 #
does this work with the pikey keyboard input driver? if not, could support be implemented. then typing wouldnt be so time consuming. my broken analog stick makes internet browsing, the danezef input, and mercury meltdown impossibly difficult.:)
Comment by hibbity — March 22, 2007 #
Great job man, i love the new afkim, but here is what i found:
1-If afkim has a wifi connection, then sometimes its get stuck at resolving…
2-in the oe version of afkim, the psp crashes when trying to return to the xmb with the home button, only when its get stuck with resolving…
But i did not had that bug in afkim 3.0 for firmware 1.5.
Maby its the bitlbee server, but its really annoying when it gets stuck at resolving all the time…
can you please try to fix that?
I asked it on forums, and they also say it oftens get stuck there.
I have 3.03oe-c as firmware.
Comment by borgqueenx — March 22, 2007 #
@Danzel yeah thanks I all ready have jabber acount like “locoonpsp@chrome.pl” and there i have port to the “gadu-gadu” and all my friends in it. Sorry but I didn’t understend how can I start my acount now with AFKIM, sorry about that if it’s not a point
but if it is posible please write a little totuorial for me
step by step ..
thanks
Comment by LOCOSP — March 22, 2007 #
I had look around end now I see what’s going on , I can register with Gtalk as a jabber acount, but if you can tell me how to disable or delate this automatic add @gmail.com (can’t see in cfg files), if I could write only ex: “locoonpsp@chrome.pl” it should work … like ordinary jabber if I’m wrong please tell me
…
Comment by LOCOSP — March 22, 2007 #
please fix the bug that afkim often gets stuck with resolving…
i will vote on this one in the competition 4 sure!
Comment by Boaz van Veen — March 22, 2007 #
@timur-mur-mur - I’ll work on it more for the next version, there is some partial support in there but not enough.
@hibbity - considering this came out before pikey
No, not yet.
@borgqueenx - alright, will investigate it.
@LOCOSP - correct, but you can’t disable the @gmail bit yet. I’ll get back to you on that one.
@Boaz van Veen - Just try again, apparently it works some times but not others. I’ll try improve resolving in the future.
Comment by Danzel — March 22, 2007 #
Thanks, i hope you can fix the resolving thing, i have the 1.5 version now of afkim 3, and its really the only iritating thing of afkim.
PS:where can i vote for your app when the time comes?
Comment by borgqueenx — March 22, 2007 #
soryr for double post, but here is a link to an forum where more people got the resolving problem, just to let you know i’m not the only one having the problem…
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=54320
If you need any help from me, just email me, i’m good at beta testing, becouse i know how programming and code works…
If you fix the resolving error then this is the best psp app there exists:D:D:D
Comment by borgqueenx — March 22, 2007 #
The vote will be on the neoflash forums.
Watch my blog over the next few days, I’ll post the link
I have read the thread and will look into it, I had to do some special stuff with webnab to work around resolver issues, so i’ll probably do something similar here.
Comment by Danzel — March 22, 2007 #

Comment by Shareed2k — March 22, 2007 #

btw can you email me your msn or email adress?
Becouse i have some suggestion you can implent…
ofcource it’l be your choice to put it in or not…
my email is gdteam_admin@mail2007.com
And if you can fix the resolving bug, can you tell me the code that you will change, i´m just curious…
Comment by borgqueenx — March 22, 2007 #
@Denzel sorry for my PERSISTENT but maybe you can release a small fix with removed “@gmail.com” thing before you will made nex version of this great app
?? if not we will wait
whole Poland will be waiting ….
take care
Comment by LOCOSP — March 23, 2007 #
@Shareed2k/Others - I will work on the multiple language support for the next major release. It is something I want to see happen but it is difficult.
@borgqueenx - Just post the suggestions on here like everyone else
I keep a log of ones to impliment.
I plan to change the current standard resolver call to run in its own thread, then if it hasn’t resolved the address within 3 seconds it will cancel the thread and try again. Something like that anyway.
@LOCOSP - You get to wait for the next release
I’ll try not to make it too long, I’ll release a 3.1 when i’ve cleaned up some of the other small bits too.
Comment by Danzel — March 23, 2007 #
i fixed my resolving problem by restarting my psp. so im not sure if its that big a deal… but great homebrew app! absoloutely love it!
suggestion (maybe question?) : can AFKIM only see a limited number of buddies? because my MSN has a lot more than the few that AFKIM put in my PSP’s buddy list. if not, then may i suggest that AFKIM be able to view more buddies?n perhaps be able to scroll up n down to view all of them?
Comment by joe ong — March 23, 2007 #
It should be able to see as many buddies as you have, this was fixed in like afkim 1b or something
When you move past the bottom or top of the list it will scroll.
Offline buddies are not shown, the grey ones are in away mode, online in black.
Comment by Danzel — March 23, 2007 #

Comment by borgqueenx — March 28, 2007 #
hahaha, definately won’t be that long.
Just helping the piKey library mature a bit so I can use it for the next release
Comment by Danzel — March 28, 2007 #
ok cool, i have a few suggestions for you the app can use and some ideas?
1-Music(mp3 in afkim)(just edit an config file where the mp3’s are stored or let afkim look in PSP/MUSIC.
2-The resolving thing, if the psp has not “solved resolving”, that after 1 or 2 seconds, afkim try’s again, becouse the resolving is done within a second if it works that time…
3-A nice pic of afkim instead of the Neoflash coding contest logo(but you already told that)
Like the ideas?
Comment by borgqueenx — March 29, 2007 #
I’m here all the time waiting
please don’y forget ISO 8859-2
and simple jabber
take care
Comment by LOCOSP — March 30, 2007 #
I’m stuck at the resolving too. 3.10-OE. I’ve tried both versions and neither works. Would it be possible to get a “blank” copy of the bitlbee.cfg file and to build it on my pc? Would this fix the resolving problem?
Comment by M4LFUNCT10N — March 30, 2007 #
Music - nope, use IRShell in the background or one of the many prx’s.
Resolving - yep.
Splash - No splash in the future
LOCOSP - Of course
M4LFUNCT10N - Have a go, the file format is in the readme. I don’t think it will fix it however.
Comment by Danzel — March 30, 2007 #
You were right, didn’t fix it. However it is easier to set up your user accounts on the PC. What could be causing the issue here with the “resolving” error? Any ideas of things I can try on my end? I have a wifi router and a wifi access point, so I’ve tried connecting to each(one uses WPA, the other WEP), and I’ve tried both versions. Neither will get me connected.
Comment by M4LFUNCT10N — March 30, 2007 #
Oh, and does this look correct?
bitlbee.cfg file:
im.bitlbee.org:6667
M4LFUNCT10N
*********
set auto_connect false
set auto_reconnect true
set display_namechanges true
set auto_reconnect_delay 60
Comment by M4LFUNCT10N — March 30, 2007 #
The resolving thing is a sort of PSP bug from what I know. I’ll have a further look at it.
bitlbee.cfg should look like (no port on the server):
im.bitlbee.org
username
password
[Anything after that is ignored]
Comment by Danzel — March 30, 2007 #
Should I use a different fw version? I’m only running 3.10-OE because that’s what was suggested on DCForums. If I’d be better off with a different version then I’m fine with that. As long as I don’t run the risk of bricking…
Comment by M4LFUNCT10N — March 30, 2007 #
AH! I changed the file and this time it worked. Not sure if it was just a coincidence, but it might be a good thing for people to try.
Comment by M4LFUNCT10N — March 30, 2007 #
Spoke too soon. I have no idea what’s going on. I was having trouble connecting with a couple accounts I had created on the bitlbee server through Konversation. So I signed off from the PSP and back in on the PC, deleted the accounts then attempted to sign back in on the PSP. Back to the Resolving issue.
Comment by M4LFUNCT10N — March 30, 2007 #
I’m running 3.10 OE’, so its the most tested version
Stupid resolving issue, hopefully I can clean it up.
Comment by Danzel — March 30, 2007 #
there is no problem with resolving issue on 3.03 OE-C …
Comment by LOCOSP — March 30, 2007 #
So you say, but I’ve never had the problem once and I’m on 3.10 OE.
It’s something related to how quick your wifi connects or something, resolving the IP is the first traffic put onto the network and it seems like sometimes it doesn’t get on there properly.
Comment by Danzel — March 30, 2007 #
yes there is, sometimes when you start afkim 3 and the connection has been made, sometimes the psp crashes in resolving.
In the 1.5 version, you can just press home and try again.
In the oe version, you need to shut down your psp and restart it becouse else your psp crashes.
According to danzel, the resolving is the psp connecting to dns.
But becouse sometimes the resolving works, sometimes not, danzel can just put up an system, that if afkim gets stuck at resolving, that afkim automaticly will retry resolving after 1 or 2 seconds.
Becouse if the resolving is working, it is done within 1 second.
Many people and friends with a psp i have talked to, also have this problem of getting stuck at resolving.
It is a iritating stupd bug that needs to be fixed, ofcource danzel can’t help it, but it would be nice if he fixes it, and he will(i think), if you look in these comments…
Comment by borgqueenx — March 31, 2007 #
I hate to ask here when there’s so many websites devoted to homebrew programming, but being that I’m planning on looking at your code, I figure I’ll ask you. While I don’t have much programming background (Basic is about it for me!), I do have the time to invest into learning a new language (I am only taking 2 classes next quarter).
Anyway, my question is what is AFKIM written in and do you have any suggestions as to what tools to use in a linux environment? I’m in Kubuntu and all the tutorials I’ve found are specifically for windows using CYGWIN32. I tried to cut out the windows steps and go straight to the PSP devkit, but when I ran the toolchain script it gives me “error downloading binutils”. Anyway, I hope I’m not totally out of place asking here, but you seem really helpful, and there are too many websites to search (I’ve tried).
Comment by M4LFUNCT10N — March 31, 2007 #
I use kubuntu too
AFKIM is written in c++
Generally for editting I use kate (awesome text editor), although it would be worth checking out KDevelop.
For running code on the psp, use PSPLink, it is the best!
Sounds like you are missing a package, maybe ’sudo apt-get install wget’ and try again?
Comment by Danzel — March 31, 2007 #
Okay, I can learn C++, but here’s my issue. I tried Kate prior to your post, and I get the error “The file file:///home/logan/Desktop/app_afkim_1185/APP_afkim.prx is a binary, saving it will result in a corrupt file.”
I probably sound *so* noobish that you wonder why you are even helping me… but I’m worth helping.
Comment by M4LFUNCT10N — March 31, 2007 #
Go learn c++ first.
A book like “C++ Essentials” would be a good start.
Then you will realize what the problem is.
Comment by Danzel — March 31, 2007 #
what???
someone fixed the resolving thing?
Danzel, can you(or someone else) please explain me how to fix this?
Comment by borgqueenx — April 2, 2007 #
I love this program, it is very nice. Since it uses IRC, I was wondering if you could make a different program that is just an IRC client. I would love to see an irc client for the PSP that is designed this well. I have been using pIRC, but the keyboard is terrible compared to the danzeff keyboard.
Comment by Daynja — April 2, 2007 #
Yeah, its in the plans, just need to find the time.
Comment by Danzel — April 2, 2007 #

A reply from danzel:
Resolving - yep.
But i cant get sense of this…
Comment by borgqueenx — April 3, 2007 #
hej man, it’s good programme, but there are some little bugs. when someone sends you message (i tried only icq account) and you are offline and you connect, when the sender is already offline, the message, will not be delivered to you. it will be lost.
and there is no sound for incomming message, that is pitty..
and my special wish is to browse the web, while chatting. it would musted to be in browser, wouldnt it? right, thanks!
Comment by stana — April 4, 2007 #
@stana - it is posible that the bug you talking about depends of btlbee server not fakim ?! …
Comment by LOCOSP — April 5, 2007 #
Nope, its a psp resolving issue.
Comment by Danzel — April 5, 2007 #
About the only fix for the resolving is to restart your PSP and try again. A couple times should do.
Comment by M4LFUNCT10N — April 5, 2007 #
locosp: i had this idea too..
danzel: are you talking about recieving messages from offline people? or about resolving problem?
ps: it realy would be nice to listen to psp music or browse the net while chatting;)
Comment by stana — April 6, 2007 #
I think the only way to pull that off would be to use a web messenger like E-buddy.
Comment by M4LFUNCT10N — April 6, 2007 #
@Denzel please make me a gift and release the 3.1 with simple jabber version of AFKIM for my birthday wich is after tomorow

Comment by LOCOSP — April 6, 2007 #
Could you implement a function to go to conversations with unread messages by pressing L or R, that would make life much easier.
Thank you very much ^^
Comment by serguma — April 6, 2007 #
Sounds like a good idea serguma, will look into it.
lol
LOCOSP - expect a late birthday present
I think I have a resolver fix, I’ve created some test EBOOTs, just replace your current one and try it.
The links to the test version are here:
http://localhost.geek.nz/afkim/afkim3beta_oe.zip
http://localhost.geek.nz/afkim/afkim3beta_15.zip
IF YOU TRY IT PLEASE REPORT BACK THANK YOU!
Please don’t go posting links to them else where either, I’ll remove them once this test is over.
I’ll go work on some other afkim changes/fixes so I can make a new release coming up soon (few days to a week I guess)
Comment by Danzel — April 7, 2007 #
I didn’t have problems with resolving before, and with this fix is no problem as well …
Denzel U should work on mz present fisrts not with non problematic “resolving” thing

Comment by Danzel — April 8, 2007 #
CONGRATYOURATIONS danzel!!!
you won the competition!
and i’m gonna try the resolving beta thing right away!
Does afkim now retry in 3 seconds or something?
Comment by borgqueenx — April 9, 2007 #
ok i tested the version 5 times.
2 of the times: resolving works.
3 of the times: nope, getting stuck at resolving again. This means its not fixed yet…
May i recommend you to also put in a auto-retry function?
After 2 or 3 seconds, that afkim will retry…?
Comment by borgqueenx — April 9, 2007 #
yeah Denzel i was jokin , sorry about that
…
Comment by LOCOSP — April 9, 2007 #
Is there any chance there will be a 2.8 version of AFKIM v3 anytime soon. I have tried using the 1.5 version of AFKIM v3 on my 2.8 but it freezes at the splash screen, and the OE version doesnt work at all. Nice work though.
Comment by Brent — April 9, 2007 #
@borgqueenx - There was an experimental resolver fix for the pspsdk, looks like it doesn’t fix it. I’ll add the autoretry bits then.
@Brent - You will need to do some things to your psp to make it work:

i’l try the version 5 times again…
Comment by borgqueenx — April 10, 2007 #
ok tested 5 times.
4 of the times he did not get stuck at resolving…(did you do something that afkim is not getting stuck at it so often?)
i was happy becouse he did not get stuck, but the fifth time, he did get stuck, and after 2 seconds, there was a message, a extremly quick message so i don’t know if this is correct but afkim said:
timeout detected, retrying…
Will afkim retry unlimited times?
that would be good becouse right now the resolving bug is FIXED!
now it is done, you maby can release it.
without the splash screen, and without the resolving bug.
I hope its ok if i keep this “beta” couse now i don’t have problems with afkim anymore.
Comment by borgqueenx — April 10, 2007 #
hey man.. just wondering.. i cant seem to remove any of the (accounts) that im not using.. i made an error.. how can i remove them? thanks..
Comment by Marc — April 10, 2007 #
@borgqueenx - Awesome, there should be a release later this week then
It retries um… 4 times (2 seconds each) then gives up, I’ll make it return you to the wifi connect screen if it gives up.
@Marc - Using “Remove Account” on the menu should remove them. It can’t do it if you add 2 accounts with the same username however.
Manual remove instructions:
1) Load up AFKIM, connect.
2) In the server window say “account list”
- The server will print a list of accounts you have added.
3) say “account del #” where # is the number beside the account in the list you want to remove.
4) Repeat to remove all the accounts you want. (re-list in between as they will get renumbered)
5) Restart AFKIM with the “Reconnect” menu option.
That should do it

I already have the latest eloader running on my 2.8, but everytime i try to run AFKIM 3 from the eloader menu it just freezes and my PSP shuts down. any suggestions?
Comment by Brent — April 10, 2007 #
Ah… eloader… I’d recommend downgrading to 1.5.
I think I know what would cause it to not work under eloader, I’ll post a changed version later today if I remember.
Comment by Danzel — April 10, 2007 #
Alright thanks man, and im not to sure if I wanna try to downgrade, because if I mess up it will brick my PSP.
Comment by Brent — April 10, 2007 #
When do u think u will have a working version of AFKIM 3 for eloader. Im just curious.
Comment by Brent — April 11, 2007 #
Hey… nice program so far.
I’m using 3.10 OE-B custom firmware.
Couple of problems, though… it refused to let me erase an account after I typed in the wrong password. Also, for some reason, it never connects to Yahoo!… I have no idea why. It works perfectly fine with AOL, MSN, and Google.
Comment by Matt S, — April 12, 2007 #
@brent: i really recommend you to downgrade.
i had an 3.03 psp and downgraded it to 1.5 and then i updated to 3.03oe-c.
just use an easy downgrader and you’l be fine.
Its really worth the risk of 1 percent.
sorry for 3 times posting:p
Comment by borgqueenx — April 12, 2007 #
Matt S - It shouldn’t do either of those things
lol.
Stranger things have happened though
Check the server window for the reason why yahoo doesn’t work.
And I posted a manual account delete guide up a few posts: http://localhost.geek.nz/?p=28#comment-6112
Comment by Danzel — April 12, 2007 #
btw is afkim the only psp program you created?
Comment by borgqueenx — April 12, 2007 #
Nope, I made peldet and webnab. Both of which are neglected these days
lol.
The peldet code has made its way into pspssh however
Also I coded the danzeff keyboard.
I’ve helped out with plenty of other peoples psp programs around the place.
Comment by Danzel — April 12, 2007 #
ah, are you able to port games as well?
becouse i’d love to see the old commander keen 4, 5 and 6 on the psp:D
i don’t know if you know that games, but they are for DOS, and are very old.
I can send you the games if you want to…
Comment by borgqueenx — April 12, 2007 #
crap, another problem with afkim.
I just got an new modem, and it has an wpa-tsk(tkip) security, and afkim tells me everytime:
connection to wifi failed, but the browser and games works online, only afkim is not…
Comment by borgqueenx — April 13, 2007 #
@borgqueenx
I don’t port games, I also don’t think the source is available for those commander keen games.
Try the dosbox port for psp:
http://forums.ps2dev.org/viewtopic.php?t=3179&start=60
As I replied in the email: (WPA-PSK TKIP)
Use the OE version, you will need to use DHCP (Automatic IP configuration).
This is a PSP firmware limitation. Nothing I can do if that will fix it.
Comment by Danzel — April 13, 2007 #
there is a source of the games ofcource…
but its ok, i dont know how to control dosbox…
Comment by Boaz van Veen — April 13, 2007 #
ps:boaz van veen and borgqueenx are desame person:p
is there a way to implant this app afkim into the pspssh browser?
Comment by Boaz van Veen — April 14, 2007 #
To do what?
Probably not.
Comment by Danzel — April 14, 2007 #
the app afkim, make a prx so u can start it from the psp internet browser.
or maby as another idea put the links2 browser inside the app.
Comment by Boaz van Veen — April 14, 2007 #
Making it a PRX won’t let you run afkim inside links2, links2 doesn’t have the ability to run other programs inside it.
PSPRadio does, and I intend to make a prx for it again once it has stabilized a bit more.
Comment by Danzel — April 14, 2007 #
i mean running links2 inside afkim instead of running afkim in links2.
Comment by borgqueenx — April 15, 2007 #
whatever happened to the changed version of AFKIM 3 for fw 2.8 that you were going to post.
Comment by Brent — April 17, 2007 #

You need to put the 1.5 version in the game150 folder eh?
And then this version, becouse the other ones have resolving issueses…

Any chance we could get an IRC client anytime soon based on this program? It looks great and the danzeff keyboard is amazing. Let us know if there’s anything we can do for you!
Comment by Daynja — April 26, 2007 #
You could code it yourself?
Not anytime too soon, working on other projects.
Maybe in the future potentially.
Comment by Danzel — April 26, 2007 #
yes on no grafity i hope:P
anyway i agree that afkim could use an irc thing, it would make the application even better.
Comment by borgqueenx — April 28, 2007 #
i would like to report an bug:
when i am connecting to my wifi access point, afkim suddenly says: connection status 6 of 4:p or something.
Anyway, the thing is that 6 of the 4 cannot exists.
Its not something that should be fixed quick but i am just telling you:p
Comment by borgqueenx — May 2, 2007 #
Hahaha, yeah I’ve seen that one too.
Seems like something that was introduced in the 3.XX firmware.
Will do something about it next release.
Comment by Danzel — May 2, 2007 #

Comment by LOCOSP — May 3, 2007 #
I was wondering, is it possible to connect to the test server (testing.bitlbee.org)? Because I’ve been trying to get an account set up there and working with AFKIM v3. But AFKIM only ever gets to the ‘Identifying’ part after it connects, then it just sort of sits there (it doesn’t crash).
Comment by Zarradeth — May 3, 2007 #
@LOCOSP - Will try for it this weekend, have been busy with other stuff.
@Zarradeth - Will investigate it when I get some time.
Comment by Danzel — May 3, 2007 #
Hi i was just wondering how hard would it be to add a beep for message notification? Afkim is already perfect but i cant hear it when i have a new message!
Comment by D-Fresh — May 6, 2007 #
Not sure, never done sound on the PSP.
If anyone around has experience with it or experience with SDL audio then they could probably do it pretty easy.
Comment by Danzel — May 6, 2007 #
Hmmm apart from that it’s great! Also i don’t know what that other bloke said but its working fine for me on 3.40 oe-a!
Comment by D-Fresh — May 6, 2007 #
You know how awesome you are and stuff, Danzel? *sucking up* It’s my birthday next Monday (not today) and I would really love a sound feature *ends subtle hinting* PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE?
Comment by D-Fresh — May 7, 2007 #
I can’t get it to connect, tried all versions I could find and tried them in the GAME150 and in the GAME340 folder (I am using 340oea).
I think the problem is I am not using a WEP encrypted connection but an WPA-PSK (TKIP) connection.
I execute the program, select a connection (I have 2, selecy the second one), then it says:
connection state 2 of 4
connection to wifi failed
I never get the “connection state 1 of 4″ (should I get this?)
am I doing something wrong?
really would love to use this tool!
thanks!
Comment by syberjj — May 22, 2007 #
The OE version should work from the GAME340 folder with a WPA connection, it does for me.
Make sure you are using DHCP (Automatic address configuration) however!
You should get a state 1 of 4, but sometimes it doesn’t show.
Test that your connection works in the network config thing.

Please hel me somebody
i have already installed afkim 3 to psp/game
it works until i wrote my icq number and password
then it writes the nick nema already exists , unable to make connesction
how is it possible
Comment by kures — May 25, 2007 #
ok i maid it but i got another serious problem i got my contact list on my psp but every body see me as an offline why? how i could be online
Comment by kures — May 25, 2007 #
and last question sorry but i don´t know how to write it in the tread above so why the afkim 3 is still loging me off i want to be conected all the time i´m there a it is writing reconnecting in 60 seconds but nothings happend
Comment by kures — May 25, 2007 #
kures - Sounds like you have a dodgy wifi or internet connection, try go closer to the wifi AP.
Comment by Danzel — May 25, 2007 #
hm maybe it was some connection break it can be true but tell me pleaseeeeeeee why the others see me like offline all the time while i´m on the afkim 3 a don´t understand it I see everybody who is online i can write them a message but they get the message from an offline user like me why
Comment by kures — May 25, 2007 #
and second question is why when i have instalen afkim 3 a start it then i wrote my nick and pasword and it wrote nack already exist unable to make account and i have to maid anoher name and password is it possible to pass by the registration and go straight to log in?
that are my two serious questions pleeeease answer on them i´m desperate realy
Comment by kures — May 25, 2007 #
No idea why you don’t show as online.
If you read the README it tells you how to use an existing username and password, you have to enter them manually in the afkim.cfg file IIRC.
Comment by Danzel — May 25, 2007 #
where i can find the readme file? i have downloaded afkim 3 a there wasn´t any
so could you send me an email how to do it? erase existing nick and registered again?with the nick before
and did you hear about somebody who is still offline too? and managed to fix it?
Comment by kures — May 25, 2007 #
In the AFKIM folder there is a file ‘README’.
Open it in wordpad.
Haven’t heard of anyone else with the show offline issue.

I have just read thru alllll the comments it seems I have a unique problem that nobody else has..
I can load up the app, setup an account, and log in. only one time (the first time)
After I close the app everytime i try to open it after the first time, its just a black screen, the psp does not lock up its just a black screen, i can press Home and go back to the XMB

I don’t think AFKIM actually lets you set an away message.
If you want to set one, try saying:
“/away away MESSAGE HERE”
then
“/away”
to come back

Does afkim work with 3.90 M33 firmware?
Comment by hynk — February 21, 2008 #
Probably? Try it.
Should work with the 1.5 kernel addon atleast.
Comment by Danzel — February 21, 2008 #
I seem to be having troubles loading AFKIM from 3.90 M33-2 on my slim PSP (It worked fine on 3.80 M33-5). I’ve tried in IRShell, from the XMB and using eLoader. All I’ve encountered is error messages. I can’t try loading it in the 1.5 kernel, and my pandora is mia at the moment, so TimeMachine is out of the question as well… Any help would be appreciated as this was my favorite chat program for the PSP.
Also, will the splash screen ever be replaced for the newest version? Spring ‘07 was a while back now…
Comment by therealnewbe — March 17, 2008 #
What version are you using?
I would think the OE one would work.
I will try have a look at updating this soon, at least to make it work in 3.90.
Comment by Danzel — March 17, 2008 #
I’ve re-installed the OE version and it seems to be working (didn’t do any testing, but the program loaded and found my network). Was using the 1.50 version through eLoader until now and that worked just fine. Just glad to have it up and running again.
Would be nice to change up that splash screen though *wink wink*

Comment by stann — March 31, 2008 #
There is a text file in the afkim folder called “bitlbee.cfg” or “afkim.cfg” I think, open it in notepad and you’ll see.

Ok thanks, but it the problem with bitlbee upgrade is not solved yet. I mistook. It seems that ZX81 solved another problem (with ‘resolving’ screen)..

I recently upgraded to custom firmware 3.90 M33-3.
My IRsheel no longer worked, so I went to see if the other programs did. Afkim loads up fine and connects fine and everything. Then it says, Resolving… connecting, and then gives me the message “Connection error”.
My psp just freezes there and then will “crash” (as in making a tiny popping sound and just turn off).
Is this happening to anyone else? I’m wondering if it has something to do with the firmware compatibility issue, as nothing like this happened until i upgraded today.
Comment by XT — April 18, 2008 #

Oh woops, its not in the menu! Here is a guide:
Go to the server chat window.
Say “account list”, it will list your accounts with numbers, remember the number of the account you want to rename.
Now say: nick X “my new nickname” (where X is the number of the account.)
And you should be renamed

yeah! i managed to change my nick. thank dude!

Danzel, i like the idea of your program but i dont quite understand how to get it to work, something about “nick” being registered comes up after i connect to internet and try to make an account, how do set up accounts exactly…do i use my aim and how would i do that, or is it a seperate account? can you get rid of the nick problem?
Comment by Thomas — June 15, 2008 #
Afkim wouldnt work if the psp is put on with a static IP address, gives a connection error and the psp shuts down by itself, if the psp is assigned DHCP (configured to obtain an IP address on it’s own while dialing onto the wireless router), it does connect without any problems. I’ve checked it, it works everytime with DHCP and not if with a static IP address.
